What causes Panic Attacks?

“It literally feels like the world is falling apart and whatever went on was catastrophic, even though it would be a really small thing.” This is how the panic attacks will make a person feel like.

Did you know that roughly 10% of the teenagers and about 40% of adults suffer from panic attacks every year? One survey has proved that the first onset of the panic attacks is seen in teenage years and early adulthood. It is also estimated that one in five teens every year is prone to this disorder. The root cause for the panic attacks is unclear, but yes, there are few factors that contribute to the development of this disorder. The factors like stress, anxiety, depression are known to be the underlying cause for the panic attacks. Apart from these aspects, there do exist some other causes that account for panic attacks.   • Deformities in the brainPanic attacks are caused due to the abnormalities arising in the brain. These areas usually control the acute stress response or known as the hyperarousal response.
  • Genetic predisposition- Genetics also plays a major role in the development of panic attacks. There are some people who encounter these attacks at the right time due to the genetic dispositions.
  • Major stress– These events includes life transitions like the death of your loved one or when a person is cheated, etc. The nature of a person is sensitive to stressful events, thus leading to negative events.
  • Substance Abuse– The abuse of alcohol and drugs can also contribute to the development of panic attack.

Panic attacks also occur due to some physical and medical conditions. However, these attacks are treatable conditions. They can be successfully treated with some medical strategies as well as through some therapy treatments such as Cognitive behavioral therapy, Psychotherapy, etc.
